What to bring
Clothing: hiking boots, bathing
suit, sun hat, sweater/fleece and quick-drying non-cotton shirts and
pants, synthetic socks, rain jacket/parka.
Money: cashing travellers' cheques
is difficult and expensive in Brazil, particularly in more remote
areas. If you do bring them, cash them into Brazilian reals at major
airports. Credit cards are very popular, though. In Chapada Diamantina,
Visa is the most widely accepted, and some places also take Mastercard.
So bring your credit card and some cash for small expenses.
Medicines:
if you usually take medicines, particularly prescription drugs, bring
enough with you, as names, brands and compositions may be very different
in Brazil and the ones you regularly take might not be available here
at all.
Other: sunscreen, insect repellent,
small flashlight, camera and lots of film/storage capacity! And extra
batteries for your camera.
