At the foothills of the
Sincora Range, in the heart of Chapada Diamantina, the town of Andarai
is the perfect destination for ecotourists. Its attractions are among
the most beautiful in the region: the valley and canyon of the Pati
River, the Marimbus wetlands, freshwater beaches of the Paraguassu
River as well as its canyon, countless waterfalls and natural pools,
and the exquisitely beautiful Paixão Cave. The town is conveniently
close to other importat attractions such as Poço Encantado,
Poço Azul, Buracão Falls, Mucugê, Lençóis
and the caves of Iraquara. It is also the starting point of Brazil's
most beautiful trail: Andaraí-Vale do Capão, via Pati
and Gerais do Vieira.
In addition to nature, the town offers the warm hospitality of its
people, its peculiar small-town culture and its historical heritage:
in the 19th century it staged the peak of the diamond rush, whose
testimonials can be seen in its architecture and in the ruins of the
stone houses in the old village of Xique-Xique do Igatu, then a major
diamond-mining center and now a destination ecotourists can't miss.
